I took this evening tour of Fogg Dam with Geoff on Monday 17 June 2024 - and I’ll say straight up it was worth every cent! I had visited Fogg Dam two years ago, but this time I wanted a better insight into the flora, fauna & history of Darwin & surrounding area. You can only get that from a dedicated local. Tour leader Geoff’s knowledge & experience in these areas is exceptional. His friendliness & clear explanations were well received by myself & the 4 other participants from NZ & the USA. Having dinner at the Humpty Doo Hotel capped the evening off splendidly. Loads of birds & lots of photographic opportunities …. don’t miss it!

Geoff is an amazing tour guide. He went above and beyond to show us the best of the wildlife in the wet lands. He then joined the group for our meal at Humpty Doo. He is rich in historical information, making for a great night. Very funny and entertaining.

Geoff, was such an enthusiastic and informed guide. He went out of his way to include everyone in the group and impart knowledge about all areas we past: Darwin to Fogg Dam and Humpty Doo. The wetlands is a dynamic and beautiful area. One can never predict what will be seen. We were thrilled to see Jabiru, magpie geese and a sea eagle. Dining at the Humpty Doo Hotel was a great way to finish.

One of the best tours I have been on in a long time. Geoff was a great guide who made you feel welcome. He ran the tour even though I was the only participant. He also shared his photos after the trip which he took with his professional camera getting close up pictures of the wildlife. He had a wealth of knowledge which he so willingly shared. Greatly recommend tour to anyone looking for something a bit different.

Wonderful tour our guide was Brilliant his hard-earned knowledge and wonderful photography helped make the tour well worth the money. this tour catered for a small amount of people which is Ideal for the kind of activity provided. our guide sent us photos of the many birds, crocs (unable to be seen by us) and wallabies having a rip-roaring fight. Thanks again for a very memorable tour in which all the passengers shared a lot of stories and fun. CONGRATULATIONS

We had a fantastic time in Darwin with Look About Tours. Nothing was too much trouble for Geoff, who went over & above to ensure our holiday was one to remember.
It was a lovely relaxed pace and we still got to see and do so much. We had amazing immersive experiences tailored to everyone in our group, aged from 16 to 80!
Look About Tours put together the most comprehensive itinerary, that ensured we saw all of what Darwin & the NT has to offer.
If you want a tour guide who is passionate, entertaining, with fantastic wildlife knowledge and lots of local insights (we got to see hidden gems and visit the best swimming holes!), Geoff is your man!
We would do the trip all over again in a heartbeat with Look About Tours.

We recently went on the Fogg Dam sunset tour with Geoff and can highly recommend this activity. At the end of the Wet Season there was still a lot of water in the dam and many birds feeding in the shallows. The number and variety of birds was amazing and we were very close to them. After sunset we went to the Humpty Doo Pub for dinner. Good food and great NT atmosphere!
Geoff gave a lot of information about Darwin’s history and why the Fogg Dam was developed which was very interesting. The bonus was when he sent us photos of the birds and other wildlife that we saw on the tour taken with his professional camera. A lovely reminder of a great experience!

A perfect 5-6 hours at Fogg Dam and Humpty Doo.
The Nature and wildlife at the Dam was fantastic and the sunset was right up there.
A little group of people with a local guide who makes sure everybody has a good time. Lots of info on Darwin and a great guide to be with.
The Humpty Doo has great food and beers and has the top END charm.
A great time and value for money.

My family and I had an incredible personalised tour for four days at Kakadu, Fog Dam, Litchfield, Adelaide River, Darwin and WW2 sites, and museums. Everything was great from Geoff being a fantastic tour guide who was knowledgeable on the wildlife, WW2 sites and history, museums, Darwin and NT - also on all of the local pubs. Geoff is supa friendly, helpful and was attentive to all our family needs as the tour was well suited for our teenagers, the parents and grandparents. What was fantastic is I told them roughly what everyone liked and how long we had and they designed the whole tour for me so saved me all the hard work! Geoff picked us up from our hotel everyday and dropped us off. The bus was really comfortable and Geoff took all the photos - great memories from this holiday and highly recommended!

Had a fantastic afternoon/early evening tour with Geoff. What a wealth of information he is. He took us around some of the historical areas of Darwin Harbour, before heading out to Fogg Dam. It's easy to become mesmerised with the birdlife out there, a gathering of egrets, cormorants, spoonbills, jabiru, as well as raptors, and finches. Jacana are around, enjoying the water lillies. What a joy for novice birdwatchers, croc spotters, photographers and sunset seekers. We were blessed with a striking sunset to top off the tour. My mistake, the pub meal at Humpty Doo made for the grand finale to a very enjoyable few hours. Great tour Geoff, many thanks. Also for the great pics he sent us the next day.

We couldn’t recommend this tour more highly. Informative, fun, stunning wildlife and environment. Geoff is extremely knowledgable about the history and features of Darwin and the NT. The tour is like a template of the places to go in Darwin, (with background information ) and an exciting wildlife experience. Geoff is also a skilled photographer who sends great pictures after the tour.

Geoff shared lots of interesting facts about Darwin and other areas we travelled through on the way to Fogg Dam. Fogg Dam was beautiful, so many birds just doing their thing.
Sunset was stunning.
Geoff obviously loves his part of the world and it was a joy to share it with him.

Our tour host was very friendly and knowledgeable about Darwin and its history. Geoff was very accomadatingwith my mum who is not a good walker. I loved Fogg Dam and Humpty Doo hotel. I had a great evening chasing Australian wildlife at Fogg Dam with Geoff. He picked me up right on time and off we went to see everything from wallabies and spoonbills to black-necked storks (locally called jabirus) and magnetic termites. The photos attached to this review were taken that evening.
Geoff is extremely knowledgeable about Fogg Dam as he very clearly spends a lot of personal time there. He isn't a guide reading from a guidebook, but rather a guide who knows other regulars there by name and has favourite spots along the dam for seeing certain things. He knows when a new island has formed in the marsh or the times of day or year when certain creatures are easiest to spot.
We spent until sunset scanning the waters of Fogg Dam for birds, lizards, crocs, and marsupials and then went to eat some tasty steaks at the Humpty Doo Hotel. He knows a lot about the rest of Australia and is a great conversationalist, so we stayed well into the night discussing the other great nature opportunities Australia has to offer.
This tour is a ton of fun!

I booked the Fogg Dam Wetlands & Humpty Doo Hotel evening tour (through Expedia) for myself and my 2 teenagers and it was fantastic! Pick up on time with a warm welcoming smile from the accommodation. The tourbus was well kept, airconditioned and everyone had a window seat. Geoff is very knowledgeable about the history of Darwin as well as the animals we encountered. We were on a hunt for Dennis the Croc and we weren’t let down! Amazing wildlife is what followed with binoculars provided and Geoff taking action photos of wild life captured. Beautiful sunset over the wetlands! Humpty Doo Hotel offers amazing food at very good prices. Steak is a must!! Well worth and highly recommended. Thanks Geoff for the amazing photos!

and pointed out many species of animals and plants. So many different birds! We took many pictures. No crocodile showed up for us but we saw so many other things we didn't miss it. The experience was greatly enhanced by Geoff's expertise and friendly disposition.

Geoff was a great host and we would recommend the tour wholeheartedly. You will learn lots create friends and then at the end meet Karen the gaseous bulldog. Diner at the Humpty Doo was also a feature. Next time we are back in Darwin we will go again.

If you only do one tour in Darwin do the Fogg Dam wetlands tour with Geoff. What a wonderful place it is there full of unbelievable scenery and incredible wildlife. We were lucky enough to see a crocodile in the dam as well. Geoff is very affable, an encyclopedia of information (he can name every bird breed on the wetlands) and has a high consideration for his passengers (tour limited to six). The stop off for dinner at Humpty Doo pub is a real great talk fest to end the day.

The tour was interesting, picturesque. Geoff is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, energetic. Our afternoon trip to Darwin's East Point, then Fogg Dam wetlands was full of historical information and anecdotes as well as bird and scenic photography opportunities. Up close to magnetic termite mounds was amazing. Conversation over dinner at historic Humpty Doo pub continued unabated. An absolutely wonderful experience from every aspect.

Geoff has only just started the business of Lookabout Tours but his trip to Fogg Dam followed by the Humpty Doo pub was fantastic.
He is amiable, knowledgeable and from the get go you feel like you matter to him and that he is keen to make sure you get an optimum experience (unlike some bigger operators who just care about numbers and $$$).

So glad we found this wonderful tour. My husband Larry and I were lucky enough to be the only ones on the tour. Geoff picked us up from our Hotel on time. It was nice to find a tour at the end of the day. Fogg Dam Wetlands is an amazing place. The magical sunset, incredible birdlife and meeting Dennis the Crocodile are memories we will cherish forever. Geoff is excellent company who made us feel so welcome. He is very knowledgeable with many interesting and funny stories to tell. We enjoyed our visit to the Humpty Doo Hotel for dinner. We took the Fogg dam / Humpty Doo hotel tour in late September. What can I say , it was very enjoyable. Geoff our tour guide was terrific. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about his job . He also sent us some great photos . We also had a delicious meal at the Humpty doo Hotel .We Highly recommend anyone visiting Darwin to take this amazing tour.

My driver and field guide introduced himself and in true Australian manner we were on first names. Geoff headed off from my Hotel pick-up and started pointing out important features of the Darwin foreshore. Then we diverted from the direct route to look at another water course and the "bird watching" begins.Geoff hands me a pair of field glasses and the informative talk begins. We then head to Fogg Dam and finish sun set with an actual sighting, and hearing of Barking Owls. Just perfect in the golden light. The Croc burger at Humpty Doo Pub and a Humpty Doo Beer set me up for the drive back to my Hotel. Thanks Geoff , you'r a good mate. Tar Barry.

The enthusiasm with which Geoff enters the tour is in itself enough for a success. He likes to tell stories and, above all, has a keen eye for wildlife. There is more than enough to see in the Fogg Dam Wetlands with my elderly eyes, but Geoff sees more. For example, I would have missed saltie Dennis if Geoff hadn't been sitting next to me. And that was one of the residents I had come to see. But through the camouflage colors he also saw the beautiful snake that I did not see immediately. And he heard the barking owl that I would never have recognized on my own. I was lucky enough to be his only guest, so I had a front row seat to everything. He rejected my offer to join a tour with more guests some other day. I booked for this day, and Geoff went all out. His strength also lay - shortly after the start - in the following: I told him that I was on holiday for the first time after the death of my wife, almost a year ago. “What was her name?” he asked. And whenever she came up during the tour, he would call her by name. Anyone in my position can understand how fantastic that feels. Thank you, Geoff!

One of the best tours I have ever been on. Geoff's knowledge, expertise and kindness make that you don't see the time passing by. He had unparalleled patience when it came to spotting the crocodile he saw the day before, he allowed us to bring back professional photos of the wildlife because of his photographic equipment, gave lots of good advice for visiting the region and its culture. And the idea of offering this tour for a small group makes communication super easy and nice. A big thank you to Geoff and LookAbout Tours!

Amazing 5 hour intro to Darwin

My first morning in Darwin was Sunday and chose this tour. After meeting the owner guide Geoff I knew I was in for a great time. I was very lucky this would be a one on one tour. As I had a few mobility issues Geoff adapted the whole tour to suit. Geoff was passionate able his knowledge and welcomed questions about places visited, Darwin WW2 and Cyclone Tracey history, flora, birds and wildlife. The tour took in Eastpoint Reserve with views across the harbour to West Point and some WW2 buildings; Nightcliff jetty and markets. At the market Geoff pointed out a great little coffee house - was nice coffee, suggested a good food stall - had yummy lemongrass prawn kebab and a great fruit/vege stall - nice mango amongst purchase (mini bus had a portable fridge to store). Onwards out of town to Howard Springs Reserve and Charles Darwin National Park for a different view of the city. Geoff is a keen photographer and took some photos of me with my camera and also did a few for me. Thankyou so much to Geoff and would highly recommend Lookabout Tours.

I had a great time, Geoff (our guide) made the trip fun, interesting and had a wealth of knowledge to share with us on the history of Darwin. The wetlands was well worth the visit, we experience nature at its best, fresh and saltwater crocodiles. Numerous varieties of birds, bullocks, snakes. We finished off with a fabulous meal at the Humpty Doo Hotel and a safe delivery back to our hotel. I will be contacting Geoff and doing it again if I return to Darwin.

Geoff Was a fantastic guide and driver very attentive and provided informative information on areas along our journey to Fogg Dam. The Dam is amazing and we saw a Crocodile and numerous bird life. Would thoroughly recommend this tour great for avid bird and wildlife photographers.

Fantastic tour. Leaving late afternoon is the best time to see bird life and wetlands. Our guide Geoff took photos of the birds with his telescopic lens and emailed to all on the tour. Also saw buffalo and crocodile. Humpty Doo Pub had a good variety of dishes with were huge servings. We were lucky to be there when a comedian was doing a show so the pub was packed and rowdy. Great fun.

Thanks Geoff for a taste of the amazing wildlife of Fogg Dam Reserve. The sunset, birdlife and watching Dennis the resident croc was a highlight of my trip. Great company in a relaxed, personalised tour. Can highly recommend, especially with photos sent the next day so I could just soak it all in.

What an unforgettable tour! It was my first tour in Darwin and it turned out to be the best of all. Geoff was fantastic with lots of humour and knowledge about the area.
I was extremely lucky in having the tour all to myself and Geoff was very generous with taking photos for me. The landscape, birds and animals was simply wonderful and the sunset over Fogg Dam was sensational. The meal at the hotel was delicious and a huge serving, make sure you're hungry! Thanks again Geoff for a great tour and the photos.

What an excellent way to spend an afternoon. Geoff was a fantastic guide, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Fogg Dam was absolutely beautiful at sunset, there was so much to take in. The birds, buffalo, croc, what an afternoon! Dinner at Humpty Doo was delicious with the best mushroom gravy I’ve ever had. I had a wonderful time, thank you Geoff.

Have just spent the most amazing afternoon and evening with Geoff Barrett from Lookabout Tours in Darwin. He’s just starting his business so still did a solo tour with me around parts of Darwin then to the Fog Dam Wetlands and then a very enjoyable dinner at the famous Humpty Doo Hotel (I had a delicious crocodile burger). Saw so many different birds, wild pigs, feral buffaloes, crocs, snake and Geoff knows so much interesting history and factual information. Exceptional value so if you’re going to Darwin make sure you get onto one of his tours.

Review of Darwin: Evening tour to Fogg Dam Wetlands and Humpty Doo Hotel
This is a new business just started by Geoff and his wife. It’s one of the best wildlife tours I have ever been on - the most amazing creatures in a beautiful peaceful setting with a knowledgeable commentary and a real insight into the local area. The crocodile sighting was unforgettable. The Humpty Doo Hotel is also a great experience of a real Australian pub - just be prepared for enormous portions!

We were so happy & felt so privileged to be part of a friendly group onboard with Geoff as we took the 'Sunset Fogg Dam' tour.
Geoff was so informative, his knowledge of the area as well as the local flora & fauna was fantastic.
We saw such an array of Birdlife, Wallabies, Buffalo & even a Darwin Crocodile.
The tour just kept giving as the sunset across the Lilly pads as we set off towards the famous & iconic 'Humpty Doo Hotel'.
Here we were treated to a great choice of food, generous servings amongst a fabulous atmosphere.
We would highly recommend taking this tour when in Darwin. Thank you, Geoff, for a terrific tour whilst we were in the top end.

Had a fabulous afternoon trip to Fogg Dam Wetlands and dinner at Humpty Do Pub. Beautiful birds, a croc, some buffalo in the distance, pigs and fantastic sunset. Anyone coming to Darwin I recommend you do the trip. Small group tour, just my husband and me today, no more than 6 usually. Geoff from LookAbout Tours was great. He took photos which he has shared with us.
